Within Rethink, we're on a mission to use fewer raw materials and cut down that pesky CO₂ footprint. Joh. Sieben is all for swapping the old "take, make, dispose" routine for a smarter, circular economy. So, how are we pulling it off? With these five clever tricks up our sleeves:

Reducing waste is all about tackling material and energy waste head-on. That’s why Joh. Sieben is always investing in shiny new machines that use less energy. Our goal? A solid 2% energy saving each and every year! Plus, with our state-of-the-art machinery, we make sure those pesky granules never end up in the environment.

In fact, Joh. Sieben proudly holds the Zero Pellet Loss certificate from Operation Clean Sweep® (OCS), a global initiative that helps keep plastic pellets and litter out of our precious environment.

Sometimes, the simplest measures can have the biggest impact—raising awareness and having toolbox meetings are key to cutting waste and making a real difference.

At Joh. Sieben, recycling is in our DNA! Our mission is to use more and more recycled materials, like post-consumer and post-industrial HDPE, in the production of our packaging.

We also collect all the leftover waste from manufacturing and from when machines are powered up or down in-house. Within our group, we also have the means to shred our debris into crushed material. By using a special extruder with a filter, we clean up the dirt and transform it into fresh granules, which are then fed right back into our production process.

But we’re not stopping there! Our machinery is getting a makeover to make recycling even easier. These days, we’re opting for Co-Extrusion machines as the standard, which lets us really crank up the use of recycled material in our packaging production.

All of these steps are pushing us closer to our goal: 50% circularity by 2030 and 100% by 2050!

When we develop new products, sustainability is always at the top of our list. We’re talking about polymers made from renewable resources like sugar cane, sugar beet, or corn.

For instance, we’ve already run reproducible production tests using biobased (I'm Green) HDPE from Braskem, which is made entirely from sugarcane.

Looking ahead, we’re excited to explore materials created through chemical recycling. The future is looking green, and we’re all in!

Most of the products we make for our customers stick around for a solid 10-15 years before they need a fresh design. These days, one of our big goals is to lighten your load – we’re talking reducing the weight of packaging and cutting down on any unnecessary space in the bottles.

That way, we’re not wasting plastic, and the bottle gets just the right design to deliver the goods to the end user, safely and soundly.
